Spots Before the Eyes

I love linen, plain linen is great, but I especially love printed linen and specially especially linen printed with spots.  This one is gorgeous and just the colours I love to use.  I feel a fabric covered sewing box coming on.

I am going to start going to my sewing group again this year – I got out of the habit and must re-start it because it is so good for my French – and if I do all the cutting and icky sticky stuff  for the box at home I can do the hand sewing bit whilst serenely chatting over an herbal infusion with the group.  Well, actually, I make them get in Earl Grey for me as it is my concession to ‘different’ tea but they all seem to prefer weird fruit or herbal concoctions.  I mean, honestly, no milk!

In the meantime, I had exhausted my stock of coffee sack owls so I made another one.  This one is a Java Type.  I must be getting a bit Valentine Dayish because I felt the urge to give him heart shaped buttons for eyes.

There is an ‘e’ after that ‘p’ but it seems to have disappeared into his little owl bot.

adorable, and does your sewing group meet in the day or evening?

Hi Jan. Well, the original group meets on a Saturday afternoon but a ‘breakaway’ group has formed which will meet on a Thursday afternoon. I am not quite sure of the reason for the breakaway as it was explained to me over the phone in hushed tones. There is obviously some intrigue going on but, because of my terrible French, I remain blissfully unaware of the sordid details which means I can float in and out of either group as I please. This neutrality is a rare advantage of ‘non-fluency’ and I employ the tactic as it suits.

He’s adorable. Isn’t it mad the way we try and avoid situations where we have to speak in a foreign language? It’s just not relaxing at all!

One of the cutest owls I’ve seen in a while. He’s lovely. 🙂

Would you mind telling me where you bought that dotty linen fabric from? And that ribbon/tape? I love them! The fabric texture looks wonderful. I have some of that stitched tape – I bought some last year, in France, but can’t find it here in the UK or online. And mine is almost finished.

Hi Wendy. I bought those linens here in France but while I was on a trip to another region – same with the ribbon. Sorry,I can’t help. The cream spots on red background in particular, has a wonderful, slubby texture – I’m hoping it’s going to make a stunning sewing box.

OK thanks…..never mind, I’ll keep looking for something like that and when we do our next French trip I am going to properly stock up. 🙂 They have such fabulous fabrics over there.

I went into M&S just after christmas and they already had the Valentine stock out (plus some Easter eggs!!!!!) so I wouldn’t worry about the heart shaped eyes.

I love coffee sacks like that – and have often thought about buying some and making cushions. Not sure how comfy they would be to lean against though!

Looking forward to hearing more gossip from your sewing group Miss Marple 😉
