Easter Weekend

We made a decent amount of money for the Twilight Retirement Home for old and disabled doggies on Saturday despite the weather being mostly against us.ย  Eight out of my ten tea towel into apron conversions sold so I was gratified I hadn’t wasted a whole afternoon last weekend cutting off corners and adding turquoise tapes.

Sunday and Monday yielded some sunshine and, so unused to such a phenomenon have I become, I burnt the backs of both hands whilst doing some open air crochet.

The butternut squash dog is looking promising so far…………

……..don’t you think?

I’ve started a smaller one but I think the larger size will look quite impressive if I can pull it off.

Butternut squash dog is looking great ๐Ÿ™‚

At the moment he has only one ear and one front leg and his head is held on to his body with a knitting needle but I thought I’d show the WIP anyway.

I love the butternut squash dog (and now I’m thinking Snoopy is entirely based on same vegetable). Well done on the fundraiser. I hope we all get some sunshine soon; the weather this holiday was not good and I’m having to run lots just to fight the low mood.

‘Snoopy’ is exactly what the husband said. We’re having some rather nice weather at the moment which hopefully might end up at your door eventually.

He’s coming along nicely, even if he looks more like he belongs in the home for old and decrepit doggies. Glad the fair was a financial success. ๐Ÿ™‚

Awww – don’t let him hear you. I’m taking him round to my sewing buddy’s house today and hopefully we’ll get him put together properly.

Like your snugglepup, he’s coming along very well. Bravo for raising a decent sum for the other poor old dogs – I’m not surprised those nice aprons sold well.

We often have the same crowd passing through our fairs – loyal supporters of Twilight and friends of the people involved so it’s good to have something a bit different to offer from time to time.

Well done on the fundraising, it’s such a great cause so I’m really pleased that it was a success. The doggy is beginning to take shape now, he’s going to be so cute.

    • #12 by tialys on April 4, 2018 - 08:38

We didn’t think we had that many people pass through but those that did were very generous as usual.

I think he is just lovely. Well done on the sales.

    • #14 by tialys on April 4, 2018 - 08:37

Well, I hope he will be less sad looking when he’s finished.

Yes I do think….BSD is looking promising indeed. And congratulations on your sales for the doggie benefits! Keep lotion on those crispy hands.

    • #16 by tialys on April 4, 2018 - 08:36

I will Jen – the sun caught me unawares!!

I’m just surprised you didn’t sell all of the aprons–they were great! Glad tidings of the money raised for the sweet dogs!

    • #18 by tialys on April 5, 2018 - 08:10

The aprons will go at the next event I’m sure and I have a good supply of the turquoise tape – I bought a 50m roll. Lots of people said they didn’t wear aprons – I know I don’t think about putting one on until it’s too late. Those people generally bought a t-towel instead though ๐Ÿ™‚

It’s great that your efforts went down well and the coffers of the doggies home are filled better for now.
The BSD is looking great – and I thought Snoopy too! ๐Ÿ˜€

    • #20 by tialys on April 5, 2018 - 08:06

He’s definitely more Snoopy than Labrador.

i love your butternut squash dog! He will be very cute. Congratulations on a successful fundraiser.

    • #22 by tialys on April 5, 2018 - 08:06

Thanks Catherine – I’m in desperate need of a skilful embroiderer (like you) now to make the eyes and nose look good – I’m having trouble ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

      • #23 by Catherine on April 5, 2018 - 08:40

Thatโ€™s the scary bit! You will be fine with them โ˜บ๏ธ

  12. #24 by sewchet on April 9, 2018 - 20:51

Oh good, thatโ€™s heartening to hear, both that the aprons sold well and that a good amount of money was raised for the dogs. Talking of which, I now have that book….

    • #25 by tialys on April 10, 2018 - 23:14

I don’t expect it will be long before we see a dog from you then ๐Ÿ˜‰ will you go for a Tess lookalike?

      • #26 by sewchet on April 11, 2018 - 14:19

Not sure, there are so many to choose from:)

      • #27 by tialys on April 11, 2018 - 18:40

I know – I only started with the lab because he’s in the ‘beginner’ section and it’s my first amigurumi. I want to make the English Bull Terrier next because I’ve always wanted one.

Congratulations on the fund-raising. That is great news. Did you ever post a photo of the tea towel aprons? They sound great. I love your crocheted puppy. Sorry to hear about the sunburned hands, though. Iโ€™m fair like you, so I can relate.

    • #29 by tialys on April 22, 2018 - 10:14

Thanks Alys – yes, a photo of the apron was on this post. I burnt my leg the other day but it was through my trouser leg so I don’t feel I can be blamed ๐Ÿ˜‰
