Adults Only Quilt

I haven’t really felt much like blogging lately but Kate’s post today has reminded me that, with social interaction being so limited or even non-existent at the moment,  blogging seems more relevant than usual.  So, I’ll keep on doing it.

Back in early 2015 I made this quilt featuring a handbag design.

This is a design from a book called More Layer Cake, Jelly Roll and Charm Quilts by Pam and Nicky Lintott  which aims to help you use the pre-cut fabric packs that look so tempting but you are not quite sure what to do with after buying.  Or is that just me?
It has spent most of its life up until recently folded over a bamboo ladder that I use to display quilts that aren’t in use.
I rarely hand quilt – I’m not good enough at it – but as this was a fairly small project I decided I would quilt in ‘big stitch’ fashion and just go round the handbag shapes.
It wasn’t until recently when I decided to use this quilt’s reverse side as a throw to protect my chaise longue from cat claws that I realised what I’d done.
Readers of a sensitive disposition, avert your eyes now.

I’m glad to have given you a bit of a laugh this morning. 😁

So what’s so adult about a McDonald’s thick shake cup…? Ok, ok, I know what you mean, but some of those shapes are seriously chunky! Are you going to do something about it (ie, quilt a bit more), or just quietly enjoy the joke? Oh, and by the way, I’d happily own most of those handbags…

Well, I admit, looking at it more closely (as you obviously have!!!), some of these might cause a bit of anxiety in certain quarters but I think I’ll leave it be – the cats certainly don’t seem intimidated by the design.

    Ha ha! 🙂
I’m glad you decided to blog. We do need to keep connecting and helping each other focus a while on those normal things we normally share.

    • #8 by tialys on March 23, 2020 - 14:07

We do indeed. A quest for a bit of normality in these surreal days.

Oh, tee-hee! What a fun way to start the day. And if the cats are a okay with it, then everyone else should, too. Glad you are blogging again. I have been thinking of you.

Happy to cheer up your morning 🌞

I think it’s lovely just the way it is. The handbags are lovely, and why not Macy D’s milk shape quilting- it could catch on. Glad that you will be blogging, you always make me smile. Take care.

    • #12 by tialys on March 23, 2020 - 18:31

Thanks Cathy, I look forward to see lots more quilts with milkshake quilting 🤣

I couldn’t fathom why your quilt warranted an adults only title. Ohmygosh you made me laugh. Thank you, Lynn! It’s quite charming. You could even use it like one of those “the doctor is in the doctor is out” signs, but for unwanted guests. When nosy folk come around, display the “adult” side, with friends, the purse. I for one am always happy to find one of your blogs. I hope you’ll keep at it.

    • #14 by tialys on March 23, 2020 - 18:38

When all this scary stuff is over, and we can start thinking again about putting the house up for sale, I expect I’ll have nosy folk coming round to have a poke about so I’ll consider your idea if I don’t like the look of them.
I’m sure I will keep on posting Alys – I find my creative endeavours are spurred on enormously if I think I’m going to be blogging about them.
      x

      • #15 by Born To Organize on March 23, 2020 - 19:32

I’m really sorry to hear about the timing of the sale. Covid-19 really is life, interupted. Will your husband continue to work in the UK? Is he stuck there with travel bans, or is he home in France with you. Sorry if this is all too nosy.

I will continue to look forward to your posts. I’m glad you’re here.

Mr. Tialys is stuck here with me! He was here when the lockdown started so it was difficult to get back to the U.K. which is good for me but not so great for youngest daughter who normally gets to live with him for the two weeks he’s not here.

      • #17 by Born To Organize on March 27, 2020 - 20:33

I’m sorry to hear your younger daughter will feel this isolation more due to his absence. That’s tough. I’m glad Mr. Tialys is with you, though, and that you’ll remain in the beautiful country side for now.

      • #18 by tialys on March 31, 2020 - 17:27

We are lucky here so far.

    Keep safe.

    • #22 by tialys on March 23, 2020 - 18:55

That was my aim this morning – it seems to have worked 😊
      Keep safe too.

  10. #23 by tinaor on March 23, 2020 - 19:13

It’s lovely despite the occasional wonkiness of the quilting – in fact, reminds me of things I make !

😀 😀 😀 What would we do without your sense of humour to enliven the day? Don’t go away – not unless you are moving house!

    • #32 by tialys on March 24, 2020 - 10:30

Well, the chance of that happening any time soon has disappeared into the distance so you will be stuck with me for a while yet.

      • #33 by thecontentedcrafter on March 24, 2020 - 18:03

        See, there’s always a silver lining 😀

      • #34 by tialys on March 24, 2020 - 18:42

Lovely to have you back! Thank you for the smile. I admit I didn’t see the ‘shapes’ at first. It’s the second time lately I have take a while to get a visual joke. I am wondering if my sense of humour has gone on lockdown too!

    • #40 by tialys on March 25, 2020 - 12:38

I’m sure it will resurface soon Anne – it’s important to have one at the moment isn’t it?

  17. #41 by Lynda on March 25, 2020 - 22:40

Some of these look like Starbucks coffees with domed lids for the whipped toppings and a few look a bit like mushrooms before they open. I’m glad you have kept your sense of humor alive and are blogging for our entertainment. We do need to keep in touch; even more so now. Thanks for the laugh! 😀

    • #42 by tialys on March 26, 2020 - 10:31

You are very welcome Lynda. I hope you are keeping well.x

      • #43 by Lynda on March 26, 2020 - 22:02

So far so good. Very tired, but that is probably worry and lack of sleep. 🙂

  18. #44 by Steph on March 25, 2020 - 23:09

    Love it!

Great art is often accidental 🙂

    • #45 by tialys on March 26, 2020 - 10:31
