Must Love Dogs

A few posts ago I showed you a quilt I was working on for the Linus Project UK  and now it’s finished.

The only fabric I needed to buy was the backing as I had how I wanted the back to look like in my mind but didn’t have any fabric remotely resembling it.  All the other fabric, including the binding and the stitch and flip dog’s face, were in my stash.

I machine quilted it very simply with horizontal lines 2 inches apart.

It measures 36 x 42 inches which is the size requested for a child’s quilt and perfect for me to manage on my home sewing machine.

I hope there’s a small dog lover out there who’ll find some comfort from this little quilt.

Next one will be another baby sized one (36 inch square)  and I think I have some Peter Rabbit fabric in my stash somewhere so that will be a nice one to work on.

Project Linus UK is a volunteer organisation. We aim to provide a sense of security and comfort to sick and traumatised babies, children and teenagers through the provision of new home made patchwork quilts and knitted blankets, and give volunteers across the UK the opportunity to contribute to their local community.

Thanks Claire, I just knew that would be the perfect design for the backing and, luckily, it was very easy to find online and not expensive either.

Mouse says it’s the nicest quilt he’s seen in ages, when am I going to make him one, and why is it going to a child and not a deserving doggo. I’ve told him he does NOT qualify as deserving in any way, which is what he was implying… It’s gorgeous, well done, and some small person is going to be thrilled to bits!

I think Mouse is biased. He gets plenty of beautiful quilts to enjoy even if none of them have had dogs on – yet!!

I think he wishes he had a lovely doggo quilt, and doesn’t find find mine nearly so interesting! I can see a day when I’ll be nose-booped into making one for him…

I seem to remember you talking about some greyhound print fabric at one time but, if I’m misremembering, I’m sure there is some to be had somewhere in the big, wide world of fabric.

He doesn’t like to think about that; it’s his ‘shower bed’ for when there are thunderstorms… Since he has four very comfy beds scattered around the house, I will be ignoring the issue for the foreseeable future.

Adorable! This will sure to be a much treasured quilt.

I like to think so, otherwise I wouldn’t be able to give it away.

Utterly charming! And I am absolutely sure a dog lover is just waiting for that quilt.

Apparently, there is usually very little or no feedback, so I’ll just have to imagine a little scrap enjoying their doggy quilt.

You will make a whole family really happy with this quilt. It’s a treasure. Love the backing fabric, and thank you for sharing the “simple”quilting. One day I will get back to my sewing machine.

I’m not a brilliant quilter – I’m much better at the piecing and general putting together – so I like to keep it simple and I didn’t want to over quilt the dog’s face so the lines seemed a good option,

I’ve got some Peter Rabbit fabric left from a little shortie p.j. set I made for one of my daughters (she’s 26!!) and, if I make a baby quilt it only needs to be 36 inch square so I should be able to come up with something.
